The American Automobile Association (AAA) has released the results of a nationwide survey of drivers which asked how they feel about tailgating, making rude gestures, and passing on the right. Whey the survey revealed is that aggressive driving means different things to different people. Carolyn Gorman, Vice President, Insurance Information Institute, says that people’s perceptions of your driving can trigger an aggressive driving incident. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration …

Some of them, alot of others are just hotheads with a ton of stress that don’t know how to control it so they take it out on other citizens with their automobile.

I pass on the right side all the time. It’s because people on the left side drive under speed limit and don’t get over when there is plenty of space for them to drive on. I heard there is going to be a law for slow people driving in left lanes. Also pisses me off when someone eats food or takes care of their kids when driving.

I get angry when people drive 15 in a 45, when people turn infront of you with no indicator, or other stupid things like slow down to 25 on a interstate to let people on. But I don’t act aggressive at other drivers, I roll the windows up and release in private.

Aggressive driving is narcissitic, self-absorbed, egocentric drivers who believe they are the absolute center of the known universe and that the law does not apply to them, lashing out against law abiding, level headed, considerate drivers who fall victim to the child-like angst of said narcissists.

They basically say that every driver in NYC, particularly Manhattan, are aggressive drivers. They always tailgate, pass on both sides, cut off very closely, fail to yield right of way to each other and pedestrians, and use their horns excessively. It’s all normal for NYC though. I even heard a cabbie yell “learn how to drive old woman” while I was walking by.

It is the law and many people do break it up here in Pennsylvania. Theres no way to avoid them without passing on the right, so I just insist on signaling early and proceeding with caution as you pass.

I agree, I wait a few moments if they dont move, signal early and proceed with a pass.

Passing on the right isn’t the problem, It’s the people who won’t get over when there’s room. It just clogs up the road.

Road rage is a good way to release your anger sgainst a careless act done by another driver, or you’re having a bad day. It’s both. If I’m not in a great mood and a stupid act is being done by another driver, then it’s on. I make all kinds of nasty gestures to another driver who likes to be stupid. I lay on the horn to communicate my anger towards a driver who takes too long to react to a green light, especially cutting me off and pulling out. People should pay attention!

You’ve got a damn good point. What should be deemed illegal are people doing 10-15 mph LESS than the posted speed limit in the left lane.
So if you’re riding along at the speed limit, and come up on someone going slow in the fast lane, you’re supposed to just ride behind them when there’s a perfectly good empty lane beside you? Weak.

the video has good advice to avoid road rage but it takes too long. Its easier just to go off. :-}

people get mad because they’re driving too slow in the left lane…and how DARE another driver actually go faster than them going 40 in a 55 in the fast lane?
Seriously, I don’t know why passing on the right pisses people off…other than the above explanation. Sucks it’s illegal, someone should do something about the nimrods driving too slow in the left…or fast…lane.

YES, IT IS ILLEGAL.

No passing on the right is for when it’s a single lane but wide, except when making a right turn within 200 feet.
On Jul 16, 2009, Nutellafresser said:
in some states it is. all vehicles are supposed to stay in the right lane unless passing, the left lane is reserved in most states for passing.

passing on the right? is that illegal? i’ve seen people do it right infront of cops so why does it get people mad?

I noticed my slow to moderate driving speed is now relatively faster. People are driving slower! My driving speed was usually about average or maybe only slightly slower than most. Think this has to do with reports during the beginning of July about slower speeds saving gas. I am going between 63 MPH & 71 MPH in a 65 MPH Zone & I am passing people! Just two months ago, all kinds of Yahoos were passing me going @ least 80 MPH! I was going around 73 MPH. Now I am the faster one in the pack!

On a 3 Lane Highway / All Traffic going the Same Way: In order for it to be safe to change to the Center Lane, there cannot be cars in the general vicinity 2 lanes over (ie: In the Right Lane). This is a Defensive Driving Technique! Think about it: If there is an Open Space, the Car in the Right Lane could decide to change to the Center Lane @ the same time as the Car in the Left Lane & then. Both use there signals & then: BamMO! Again, I seldom drive in the left lane. Prefer the Center Lane!

On the highways, if there are 3 lanes; I usually drive in the middle lane. People are merging in the right lanes & Yes, the Left Lane is for passing. This is the law. Then safety comes First! Sometimes I get in the Left Lane & then it is NOT Safe to change lanes. Sure, If it is safe; I get over. When it is NOT safe to move over & someone tailgates me, Oh well, Guess I am “Inconsiderate”, because I do NOT have the slightest regrets for my actions!
On Jul 23, 2009, mowriter said:
LOL, numbers 1 and 2 (1:19) relates directly to slow drivers in the passing lane, AKA the LEFT LANE. Tailgating means someone fFAILED to move out of the way. Passing on the right means a left lane driver FAILED to move the hell over!
Agressive drivers aren’t the problem: rude, INCONSIDERATE, oblivious drivers holding up people who KNOW how to drive, THESE are the problem people.
